Offering a facade signed by Guidetto da Como in 1204, Cattedrale di San Martino is a beautiful example of the Pisan-Lucchese Romanesque school of architecture. The church is home to the Volto Santo, Lucca’s most holy relic. The carved reliefs under the portico, some of which were carved by da Como, are a good sample of 13th century stonework. Visitors can see Adoration of the Magi and Deposition, which some believe are early works of Nicola Pisano. The church also offers several works by Matteo Civitali including the octagonal Tempietto and the 1472 tomb of Pietro Noceto . Be sure to walk behind the church to see the small park.
